Specialisation:

Environmental earth science, especially natural and man-made hazards; disaster risk reduction; igneous geology, especially volcanology; mineralogy; geochemistry; field studies and mapping; education and e-learning; knowledge exchange; public understanding of science.

Implementing effective disaster risk reduction through the application of earth and environmental science; mapping and portraying hazards, risk and vulnerability; geology and geohazards of Cyprus; effective teaching and learning methods and resources; effective research and knowledge exchange partnerships

Stephen Edwards is the first Research and Education Development Manager at the Aon Benfield UCL Hazard Research Centre, a position that utilises his expertise in Earth and environmental science, hazardous natural processes, interdisciplinary project development and management, education, and communication of science to professionals and the public. Stephen is well travelled, having undertaken university teaching and research throughout the world. Following completion of his PhD as a Commonwealth Scholar in Canada, he held lectureships in Earth science at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Greenwich, and a visiting professorship in Earth science at the University of Papua New Guinea. Stephen is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London and the Higher Education Academy, and a member of the Earth Science Teachers’ Association and the editorial board of Geology Today.
