Aon Benfield UCL Hazard Research Centre Launches New Website www.abuhrc.org

05/02/2009
New online resource for worldwide natural hazard information and research

The Aon Benfield UCL Hazard Research Centre (ABUHRC) today launched its new website www.abuhrc.org

The website, which aims to make hazard and risk science easily accessible to businesses and industry, has a user friendly layout and contains detailed information on key natural hazards including windstorms, earthquakes, floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions and climate change.

In addition to providing access to over 70 of the Centre’s publications including regular catastrophe reports and the annual Hazard & Risk Science Review, the website also contains a comprehensive hazard image library and invaluable contact details for all the leading hazard and risk experts based at ABUHRC.  Information on education, short courses, workshops, consultancy services and upcoming seminars is also available.

Commenting on the launch of the new website, Professor Bill McGuire, Director of the ABUHRC and Professor of Geophysical Hazards at University College London said:
“As a leading provider of cutting-edge natural hazard and risk research, practice and innovation to the business world, government and international agencies, we are very aware that our website is the first port of call for those interested in the ABUHRC and its work, and as such we welcome enthusiastically our new and dynamic web presence.

The new website has been developed in order to showcase ABUHRC activities, as well as to facilitate the rapid communication and application of natural hazard research at the Centre and to allow visitors to follow the progress of ongoing projects.  The site will also provide a key resource for information on natural hazards and will assist in the Centre’s central goal of improving natural hazard and risk assessment, and reducing exposure to natural catastrophes worldwide.”

David Simmons, Head of Research Publications at Aon Benfield commented:
“As sponsors, we are proud to have watched the Aon Benfield UCL Hazard Research Centre develop into a centre of excellence for risk education and research.  We welcome this initiative to make the work of the Centre more accessible to the insurance industry, the humanitarian aid community and society at large.”
